FREE Community Drop-in Counselling

We’re happy you’re here! Through a collaboration with Quadrangle NL and with support from Planned Parenthood NL, Mending Mondays offers free one-on-one counselling, mental health support, and system navigation for Two Spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender diverse folks and the people who love them.

Booking is available from Monday to Saturday each week for a FREE counselling session on the following Monday. Upcoming dates in 2024 are April 29th, May 6th, 13th, (closed on 20th), and open again on May 27th.

What should I expect?

Booking opens at this link from Monday to Saturday each week for FREE counselling sessions on the following Monday.

Counselling sessions are free, offered Monday afternoons at 12:30, 2:00, and 3:30 pm and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis.

On the day of your session, the process usually takes about 1.5 hours, starting with intake with our TSNL staff. We will take about 10-15 minutes to go through intake and, together, we’ll explore what type of support could be most useful to you that day.

After intake, you’ll have up to one hour with your counsellor.

What can I talk about?

Two Spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender diverse folks and the people who love them can talk about any issues that are impacting their daily lives.

Common topics that folks bring to counselling include:
– personal, work, or financial stress
– emotional, physical, and mental health
– identity, gender, and sexuality exploration
– family and relationships
– grief and loss
– alcohol and drug use
– separation and divorce
– intimate partner violence/domestic violence
– challenges with executive dysfunction
– safety
– plus more

One session at a time.

Principles of our single session therapy model:

Trauma-informed: This program works from a trauma-informed perspective. We emphasize safety, trust, and a welcoming space. We invite collaboration. We emphasize our participants’ strengths and support in building skills for coping.

Harm reduction: We aim to offer safe, accessible, low barrier counselling. We deal with the immediate and whatever is present for you right now. This prevents the concern from growing and worsening, which serves to reduce harm over time.

Single focus: One issue or concern is focused on during your visit. Narrowing questions are used during intake with TSNL staff to determine the most important focus. Remember… you are not the problem. The problem is the problem.

Single session: The contents of each session stands alone. We welcome our participants to return to Mending Mondays more than once, while recognizing that the topics from any previous sessions with the same person aren’t considered. Each visit, the counsellor and participant will explore what’s going on for the person in the here and now.

Goal oriented: Each session will have a goal or hope, and you’ll leave with a tangible plan that is co-created with you. We emphasize that all change is generative, no matter how small the next step may be.

Connection: We believe that connection is a healing experience.
