We are always happy to collaborate with other organizations on projects to help support and empower members of our community. Check out what we have happening below!
About the Project
The Trans Tapestry will showcase the very fabric of what trans visibility and identity means to trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit, and gender diverse folks across Newfoundland and Labrador. This project is a collaboration between TSNL, Quadrangle NL (The Quad NL) and Safe Harbour Outreach Project (SHOP) as we honour the work of the Trans Needs Committee through their Legacy Fund. We are inviting Two-Spirit people and trans, non-binary, and gender diverse folks of all gender identities and expressions across all ages, locations, and intersections of identity – including those that are BIPOC, engage in sex work, are incarcerated or have previously been incarcerated, migrants, living with disabilities, and all life experiences that reflect the diversity of trans lives across our province – to contribute to this project.
The artpiece will be unveiled on Trans Day Of Visibility: March 31, 2022 at a community opening in St. John’s. From there, the tapestry will begin a journey across the province to be displayed at public events at various urban and rural locations that celebrate the diversity of our community. Accompanying the tapestry will be a list of those contributors who have agreed to have their name and location included.
By embodying the narratives of its contributors, this piece will celebrate and educate the people of our province. Our collaboration aims to provide a voice to the rich texture of trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit, gender diverse communities in Newfoundland and Labrador and move beyond restrictive notions of who trans people are. Be a part of the story being sewn together by our diverse trans community!
